Bookends Aug over looking ahead

Our August meeting was at Marco Brewery.

Our usual custom is to meet on an informal (volunteers only) rotating basis at one another's homes.  We meet the 4th Monday of the month at 4:00 PM.  The hostess selects the book and facilitates the discussion. We read whatever the hostess suggests from classics, to best sellers, to non-fiction to.....For a full list of what we have read so far, consult previous posts.

For a member who would like to facilitate but cannot host in her home (for any reason) we have readily available default locations.  The goal is to give everyone a chance to select and sponsor a book.

Our only requirement regarding the book selected is the sponsor must actually have READ the book.  Word-of-mouth and reviews can be disappointing.  We have made an exception for books that have won major prizes.

September 24

Book Ends April Update

We meet the 3rd week in May because of Memorial Day.

For March we had another good meeting in the social room of Kecia's condo building for People I Would Like to Punch in the Throat..., a very funny book.

We also read an interesting book of poetry, part erotic and part women's empowerment.  Milk and Honey by Rupi Maur.

April 23
Karen Martonik is the sponsor of
Americanah
by Chimamanda Adichie.
The meeting will be at Lael's house
1568 Heights Ct.

May 21 we are meeting at Joan Husband's house, 1350 Merrimac Ave, to discuss Kathleen Hendrix's selection I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou.  This date is the 3rd week in May because the 4th week is Memorial Day.

June 25 we will read The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez.  Karen Caster our sponsor, 530 Peacock Terrace.

We have enough year rounders to go through the summer.  We will discuss that in June so please review your calendar for travel plans.

Additionally, the Newcomers year is winding down.  Next season we will have new women joining the club. If you no longer wish to be part of this book group, please let Denise Schwartzman.  We can then open up for new readers.  If you want to stay in but can't make all the meetings, by all means, stay in.  We will be glad to see you when you do come.

Remember to volunteer if you have not.
